Tell us a little bit about yourself
I am a sixth generation jewelry designer after having launched my eponymous brand, Madhuri Parson New York, in 2011 in New York City. I try to design intricate jewelry pieces that women of all ages and personalities can relate to and want to cherish forever, designing and making each one unique and versatile by adding pops of colorful gemstones and diamonds to each design. I feel very lucky that my career is also my passion.
What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion means to me an expression of yourself within a compass of time.
When did you develop a love of fashion?
My mom and dad both have exquisite taste in art, jewelry, and design, and so through their influence I developed a love of fashion as a young girl.
How would you describe your style?
My style is probably best described as uptown preppy meets downtown boho chic with pops of color and patterns in the fabrics. And, of course, my go-to accessory to complete my outfit is wearing jewelry pieces from my line, Madhuri Parson New York.
How do you incorporate your own personal style with what you do?
I try to incorporate my personal style to my jewelry designing by actually being a client of the brand; designing jewelry pieces that I would feel empowered to wear and constantly delving into my rich Indian heritage of colors, patterns, architecture and contrasting with my modern sensibility of function.
Describe your morning routine. At 9 am each day, you are….
At 9 am, I’ve made my fresh cup of Indian chai and a green juice, keeps me energized throughout the day, while checking and responding to emails and catching up on the latest news in fashion and jewelry.
What’s the one garment you’ll never give away
I cherish an outerwear jacket my mom had when she and my dad immigrated to this country from India in the 70s. All those memories in her jacket touch my heart.
What is the most embarrassing thing you have bought?
I’m so embarrassed to reveal, but I purchased a metallic bright gold jumper a few years ago, dared by some of my friends who swore it looked great on me. I felt like Goldmember from Austin Powers. Five years later, the tag is still on and every time I think to wear it, I quickly erase the thought!
On the opposite end – what is your go-to power outfit?
My go-to power outfit is my low-waist boyfriend black crepe slacks, an ivory silk boatneck blouse worn under a matching slouchy crepe black suit jacket designed by Vanessa Bruno and, for a touch of femininity, I wear my black and white polka dot Valentino heels and one bold piece from my jewelry collection
What excites you most about Nineteenth Amendment?
There are many things that excite me about Nineteenth Amendment, but to keep it short, I feel that Nineteenth Amendment is very well curated with unique emerging designers from around the world and they make it easy for consumers, like myself, to shop designer clothing. The site is nothing like I’ve experienced, I feel at ease learning and knowing more about a designer, it’s comprehensible and the imagery is absolutely gorgeous. I love this experience and feeling as though I am shopping directly from the designer, and it’s all online – a major bonus!
What spoke to you about the garment you chose to wear?
The vibrant shades of pink contrasting with deep blue colors and the geometric pattern on the Rosica Mrsik Bell Dress instantly spoke to me and I had to wear it! The dress has so much personality yet it made me feel ultra feminine.
This collection by Rosica Mrsik features simple structures over compelling textured patterns. Welcome your wardrobe to its new staple pieces.
Nineteenth + Seventh is a monthly feature bringing cutting-edge fashions from our global designers to your favorite tastemakers. Our goal? To help tell their stories through our designers’ clothing.
